24 SERVICE UNTO THE LORD

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
Matthew 6:24
Main Text: Main Text: Joshua 24:15

To serve God is to love him with all that we are, obeying, and enjoying him forever. Serving God is what we were made to do as his creatures, but our service has been corrupted by our sin and rebellion which has rendered us unable to please him. An important part of the gospel is that in Jesus Christ we can begin to serve God again with the promise of being able to serve him perfectly and forever in the age to come.Serving allows us to experience the joy and peace that comes from obedience.

1 Peter 4:10-11 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms… so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” Serving is a form of worship, a way to express gratitude for what Jesus has done for us, and to share the love and grace we’ve been given. Serving helps us to be more like Jesus. We shift our focus off of ourselves onto others through serving. We begin to see others as Jesus sees them. And we see Jesus IN others (Matthew 25:40).

Serving increases our faith. As we move out of our comfort zones, God increases our faith by revealing new potential — in ourselves and in His Church. When we see what He can do, when His power is at work within us, we begin looking for the doors He’s opening, rather than pushing our way through the one’s He’s closed (Ephesians 3:20). The reality is the Lord doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. God used men and women with similar doubts to change the course of history.

Confession:

I live in the realm of life, where death has no power. I’m crucified with Christ; nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. Hallelujah!
