HUNGER FOR GOD
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Matthew 5:6
Main Text: Main text: Luke 4:4
Hunger and thirst are natural expressions of the basic human desire and need for food and water. One of the clear indicators that something is wrong physically is when we lose our appetite. It is the same spiritually. To hunger and thirst for God is at the very root of our being. It’s the way God made us. When there is no hunger for the presence of God, it is an indicator that something is wrong spiritually. Because that hunger is so basic to human nature, it often finds fulfillment in other areas rather than in seeking God. Much as eating unhealthy junk food can dull physical appetite, so that which is not of God can dull our spiritual appetite.
The Psalmist says “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.” Psalm 42:1. As believers, we must constantly yearn for the presence of God because this would help us grow in His Word, power and faith. The exact phrase “hunger for God” is found nowhere in the Bible. The Son of Man, however, revealed to His disciples: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6). While it seems that no one or nothing in this world can give us true satisfaction, Jesus Christ promised that those who hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness shall be satisfied.
It is obvious that the imagery of hungering and thirsting after God is a scriptural concept. From the prophets of the Old Testament to Jesus and on through to the book of Revelation, the people of God are depicted as those who have developed a desire for God. We must get to the point where we desire the absolute presence of Yah, because this would aid in our spiritual transformation.
Prayer:
Lord I desire your presence like never before, I pant after you, help me get deeper with you in Jesus name, amen!

Amos 8:11-13 ““Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it. “In that day the lovely virgins and the young men shall faint for thirst.”
Revelations 22:17 “The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”
