GUARD AGAINST COVETOUSNESS
“And He said to them, Guard yourselves and keep free from all covetousness (the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more); for a man’s life does not consist in and is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance or that which is over and above his needs.”
Luke 12:15
Main Text: Main Text: Colossians 3:5
Many times, we are carried away with the many glamours of life and think that’s all that really matters in life; however, the Lord gave us a rude shock when He made it known to us that a man’s life is not in his abundance or possession, but in his constant fellowship with the Spirit of God. Jesus wasn’t a poor man on the earth, He couldn’t have ever been, so He didn’t make that statement from a place of bitterness, but truth. Your life doesn’t consist with how many cars you ride, or what class you fly on, that isn’t substance, real substance dwells in your ability to draw from the wells of salvation.
The worlds system is built around a false idea of money, we hear people say “Money isn’t everything, it’s the only thing” they think that without a few coins they can’t have true joy or happiness. This is what motivates most people to depend on their own efforts to achieve financial security, but it often doesn’t work out as expected. There are consequences for everything we do; it may be tempting to reach for as much as money as we can get, as fast as we can get it, but this type of thinking can backfire on us. “Greedy people try to get rich quick but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty.” Habakkuk 2:9 “Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house to put his nest on high, to be delivered from the hand of calamity!”
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having money, if we don’t prioritize it above everything else. God is aware of how much we need money; He promises to take care of our financial needs if we trust in Him, and not let money hijack that trust. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). God wants to bless us financially. Allowing Him to get involved in our finances lets Him do so.
Prayer:
In the name of Jesus, I refuse the spirit of greed in my domicile, I am of God and I am content in Him.

1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
