11 IT IS FINISHED
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."
John 19:30
Main Text: Main text: 1 Timothy 2:5
One of the very last words of Jesus on the cross "IT IS FINISHED" is one of the most important and poignant words for the New Testament believer. The Greek word translates to "tetelestai". Tetelestai is an accounting term meaning "Paid in full". Tetelestai comes from the verb "Teleo" which means "To bring to an end, to complete, to accomplish". It's a crucial word because it signifies the successful end to a particular course of action. It's the word you would use when you climb to the peak of Mt. Everest; it's the word you would use when you turn in the final copy of your dissertation; it's the word you would use when you make the final payment on your new car; it's the word you use when you cross the finish line of your first 10km run. The word means more than just "I survived." It means "I did exactly what I set out to do."
Our Lord Jesus did exactly what Abba sent him to do which was to redeem man. In simple terms, Jesus restored man back to His original state of dominion and power. When Jesus Made the remark, it is finished, it loosely translates to "Perfectly perfect Completely completed". This means over 2000 years ago, Jesus perfected everything that concerned you, he completed everything that had to do with your Spirit, Soul and Body. Your health became perfect, you finances became completed, no more lack and want.
When Jesus cried out "It is finished," he meant "It was finished in the past, it is still finished in the present, and it will remain finished in the future." Note one other fact. He did not say, "I am finished," for that would imply that he died defeated and exhausted. Rather, he cried out "It is finished," meaning "I successfully completed the work I came to do." 1 John 3:8
"He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." (KJV)
When Jesus cried out, the works of the devil became destroyed. Jesus destroyed the power of sin, the power of sicknesses and diseases, the back of poverty was broken, Jesus became the hope for the whole world. By that final statement, the devil lost his grip over mankind. You're the redeemed of the Lord!
Confession:
I am the redeemed of the Lord and whatsoever I say I so, therefore I declare, I walk in divine health. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, therefore I speak over my life the favor of God surrounds me like a shield. In the name of Jesus, I decree from this moment forward, I see myself the way God sees me, I am highly favored of the Lord. I am crowned with glory and honor, I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah.
