FASTING AND PRAYER
“I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.”
Psalm 35:13
Main Text: Main Text: Mathew 4:2
Fasting can simply be said to be abstinence from food. Fasting is also the abstinence from pleasure or anything that hinders devotion so as to practice self-denial. Fasting doesn’t mean being busy and not finding time to eat. God is looking for men and women who can pray till the nations are rocked and many millions freed from false religion, immorality, promiscuity, drugs and apathy to the things of God.
In the course of prayer and fasting, it requires a period of total separation from food and ordinary pleasures of life in order to be close to God. It is evident from scriptures that there’s a reward when we fast. Fasting doesn’t change God but can change the quality of our relationship and intimacy with the Lord.
Our experiences in life are not immune to the common vicissitudes of life. As long as we remain in this world, we are bound to face troubles, but in the midst of the storm we can have God as our anchor when we fast and pray.
Prayer
I am disciplined to wait on the Lord this New Year and I enjoy the benefits in Jesus name. Amen
