PARENTAL ROLE AND GODLY CHARACTER
“Tell your sons about it, and let your sons tell their sons, and their sons the next generation.”
Joel 1:3
Main Text: Proverbs 22:6
When the Lord blesses parents with a child, He entrusts them with a tremendous responsibility to raise that child in His ways and to establish a foundation early in the child’s life that is built upon Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 6:1, 2, 7). Our responsibility to pray for our children does not end at their dedication. It continues until the day the child commits his/her own life to the Lord (Job 1:51) and beyond. Praying for our children and their needs and inviting them to pray with us should become a daily practice.
The number one witness to our children is the godly example set by our own lives. Therefore, we must continually examine ourselves and our witness to our children. Proverbs 20:7 says, “The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.” The main reason for the blessed state of this man’s children is that they have someone to look up to and use as an example from which to model their own behavior. So, we must strive to be that example to our own children, even as Christ is our example.
Building Godly character in your kids is one of the best things you can do to prepare them for life! It is vital that we set an example of Godly character by the way that we live. Our kids are watching, and they will become like us. We can’t expect our kids to be honest if they see us lying about things. If we are always losing control and getting angry, we can’t expect them to have self-control. If we aren’t diligent about our work, how can we expect them to be diligent?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I receive grace to live right and train my children in a way pleasing to You.
