RENEWAL OF THE MIND

“Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete.”
Romans 12:2
Main Text: Ephesians 4:22-24

In Romans 12:2 Paul speaks of the renewing of the mind. As the body represents our outward being, so the mind represents our inward being. According to Romans 12:1, our body needs to be presented to God as a sacrifice, and our mind needs to be renewed. To be renewed is to be saturated with God. This is sanctification. To be renewed actually is to be sanctified, and to be sanctified is to be transformed. Our mind needs to be renewed, sanctified, transformed.

Renewing your mind requires faith, and faith is acting on the Word of God. You act on it just as you would act on the word of any honest man. You apply it in order to change the way you think about your life, your work, your relationships—everything.

There are a few principles that will help you better understand the concept of renewing your mind. First, understand that it is God’s perfect will for all men to be saved and to come into the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4). Peter tells us that God is not willing that any should perish. Not only is it His will for you to be saved, but it is also His will for you to be free so you can know “what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” for you (Romans 12:2, KJV). Second, you need to know that God reveals His will for mankind through His Word. As you study and put God’s Word into practice, you will come to understand God’s will for your life.

Third, Jesus and God’s Word are one. John 1:1, 14 says, “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God... So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” The Bible is God’s testimony of what He has already prepared for His children. It is the Father teaching His family how to know His thoughts and live out His ways so that they can enjoy all that the lordship of Jesus offers. The Bible is more than a history book; it is God speaking to you now. God’s Word is alive. It is the living voice from heaven. You can fearlessly act on the written Word of God by renewing your mind, just as you would if Jesus called your name and spoke with you personally!

Confession:

I’ve been clothed with the new spiritual self, which is renewed and moulded after the image and likeness of God. I think excellent thoughts and only see pictures of excellence, success, victory and abundance! My mind is focused on things that are pure, just, honest, lovely, virtuous and of good report. Glory to God!
