THE IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER
“Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
Jeremiah 33:3
Main Text: Main Text: Psalm 145:18
Prayer is important because it makes us more like Jesus and because it reveals to us the heart and mind of God. When we look at the patriarchs of the old, we know that prayer was immensely important to them. Prayer is a gift given to us—and an activity expected of us—by the Lord. Prayer helps us become one with the Father and have the kind of relationship Jesus had with him. Prayer is an essential part of our relationship with God. It is how we commune with God’s Spirit.
When we stay before the Lord in prayers, we are quickened, we become energized Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Look at the biblical examples we have of people who stayed before the Lord – Moses, Abraham, David, Gideon, and lots more, they were quickened, you want to grow in your Christian walk, the place of prayer in your quiet time cannot be overemphasized.
Prayer gives us the divine strength to do the work of God. It is through prayer that we become filled with the Holy Spirit to be able to do the work that the Lord has assigned unto us. Whatsoever our spiritual gift in the body of Christ, we cannot accomplish much without constant persevering prayer. The work of salvation of souls that is bestowed unto the church is not an exercise that can be accomplished through our physical strength. To preach Christ to the sinner is to enter the devil's territory and set his captive free (Luke 4:18). And this exercise can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit which we can only obtain through fervent prayer.
Prayer:
Abba Father, help me develop the habit of spending time in your presence in Jesus name. Amen.
