WRONG ATTITUDE TOWARDS MONEY: GREED

“So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.”
Proverbs 1:19
Main Text: Tim 6:10

Greed goes much further than money. A person can be greedy for money but also for fame, possession, attention, compliments, gifts, another person’s time and lots more. A greedy person is a selfish person. Greed is responsible for much sorrow. Greed is a spiritual disease of the heart affecting all areas of a person’s life. Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something – it’s an ugly insatiable desire for wealth, power or food. Greed is self-centered and never satisfied. The word greed comes from the Old English “graedig or voracious” which means always hungry for more.

Greed steals away the life of those that possess it (Prov. 21:25-26). Greed does not love (Ezek 22:12). Greed is destructive (Jude 11). Greed ruins families (Prov. 15:27). Greed comes naturally to humans, which is why we need to understand and retain God’s Word in our hearts and give generously to those around us.

It is the love of money and not money itself that is the problem. The love of money is a sin because it gets in the way of worshipping God. Greed refuses to be satisfied. More often than not, the more we get, the more we want, however, we must have it imprinted in our hearts that material possessions will not protect us in this life.

Prayer

Abba, I refuse greed in my life, I walk according to the precept of scriptures and my light shines before all men. In Jesus name, Amen.
