IMAGO DEI
“And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
Genesis 1:27 (AMP)
Main Text: Colossians 3:10
Imago Dei is a theological term applied uniquely to humans which denote the symbolical relation between God and humanity. The Term has its root in Genesis 1:27, wherein “God created man in His own image.” This does not mean God is in human form but rather that humans are in the image of God in their moral, spiritual and intellectual nature. Thus, humans mirror God’s divinity in their ability to actualize the unique qualities with which they have been endowed which makes them different from other creatures.
Imago Dei comes from the Latin version of the bible translated to “image of God.” You were created with unique abilities, absent in all other creatures of the earth that mirror the divine nature of God. Amongst all of God’s creatures, only man was created in the express image of God.
God wants you to reflect Him and His glory. When He looks at you, He wants to see His finger prints, His traits, His characteristics that is how valuable we are to Him. He loves you with great love and wants you set apart as His Children.
Confession:
I am in God’s image. The Greater One lives within me. I am the light of this world, hallelujah!
