WHAT IS CHRISTMAS?

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”
Matthew 1:23
Main Text: Main Text: Isaiah 7:14

Merry Christmas!! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!!! We all hear these words but many of us do not fully understand why we celebrate this day as the birth of Christ! Jesus wasn’t born exactly on the 25th of December; however, the early Roman Catholic church chose this date as a day to honor the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. Christmas is the annual Christian festival celebrating Christ's birth, held on December 25 in the Western Church. The traditional date of December 25 goes back as far as A.D. 273. Two pagan festivals honoring the sun were also celebrated on that day and it is possible that December 25 was chosen to counteract the influence of paganism.

Christmas means "Christ-mass and it’s a day we celebrate our savior, reflect on his goodness, and remember that He came to die for us. There are lots of traditions that come with this day such as the green Christmas tree, candles, the color of the day red, gifts and bells. However, this have implications and meanings. The Christmas tree symbolizes eternal life and this was introduced into the church by Martin Luther based on Isaiah 60:13. The candles mean that Christ is the light of the world (John 9:5), Holly speaks of the thorns in his crown (Matthew 27:29), Red reminds us of his blood and death, gifts remind us to show love and honor during this season as the magi or wise men did to Jesus, and the bells represent the Goodnews that Christ is the Goodnews. . Christmas is all about honoring God and showing true love to your neighbor.

Jesus is the reason for the season, please show your neighbor some love, be a giver and not a collector, Jesus came and died to give you life and peace, choose to give someone peace this day! God loves you Jesus as much as he loves Jesus! Merry Christmas!!!!!!

Confession:

Lord, I profess this day and I choose to show my neighbor love today! I will love the world as you love them and give to them to the best of my ability, thereby glorifying Christ Jesus to the world in Jesus name, amen!
