WRONG ATTITUDE TOWARDS MONEY: LAZINESS

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”
Philippians 2:5-7
Main Text: 1 Tim 6:9-10

Jesus came to earth to work. He modeled a balanced life. Laziness is an aversion to work, slowing our pace and productivity. Laziness is not the passivity it pretends to be. It is active obedience to something else other than Jesus Christ. Laziness is associated with slothfulness and being a sluggard. Laziness is a life of loafing. It is a lack of effort and a disengagement in developing the skills God has given.

God went to work in creating the world and everything in it. He tasked the first man and woman to take care of it. We are meant to do things on this earth for the glory of God. Jesus communicated His thoughts on laziness through the parable of the bags of gold in Matthew 25:14-29. In it, Jesus tells of three servants who were entrusted with a piece of their master’s fortune. The first servant doubled the money, the second increased his share, however the third went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. The master was infuriated and called him a wicked and lazy servant, he saw no reason to put that resource to work despite the intent of his master.

The original Greek language laziness means “to be wicked, annoying, hardship, causing pain and trouble”. The scriptures make it clear that laziness is evil! It is deceitful and enticing and in the servants’ case it is spurred on by fear of what his master might do. Laziness stagnates the gifts God has given us.

Prayer

Father in the name of Jesus, I come against the spirit of laziness, I choose to develop my skills thereby making my light shine before men. Amen
