GOD HATES PRIDE

“There are six or seven kinds of people the Lord doesn't like: Those who are too proud or tell lies or murder, those who make evil plans or are quick to do wrong, those who tell lies in court or stir up trouble in a family…” (CEV)
Proverbs 6:16-19
Main Text: Main Text: Psalm 75:4

If you look at each one of these seven things that God detests, you can see that pride is at the center of each one. Some translations use haughty eyes to describe a proud look or those who are too proud. The Hebrew word for haughty is “ruwm” and it means to rise, to be high, to be lofty and to be exalted. We can see that this is exactly what pride is. It is to be exalted above others and this makes them naturally look down condescendingly on others.

What causes a person to lie? Usually, it is the fact that they are protecting themselves from maybe shame, mockery, correction, etc. this is pride at the core. A person who stirs up conflict is someone who wants to look better than others and being compared to them, they are deemed superior. Pride was the first sin, from it emanated high treason against God and it is the root of all sin.

1 Samuel 2:3 “Do not boast so proudly, or let arrogant words come out of your mouth, for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and actions are weighed by Him.” (HCSB) 1 John 2:16 “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one's lifestyle—is not from the Father, but is from the world.” (HCSB).

The world operates from a sense of pride and this is not the good form of pride, however, the kind of pride that rebels against God. Edom is a typical example of the world’s form of pride. Obadiah 1:3 “You have been tricked by the pride of your heart, O you whose living-place is in the cracks of the rock, whose house is high up; who has said in his heart, who will make me come down to earth?” (BBE) From this verse, it’s evident that pride can deceive us. Daniel 5:20But when he became proud and stubborn, his glorious kingdom was taken from him.” (CEV) Pride can shorten our glorious destiny and make us debased.

It’s important we choose to humble ourselves before God for therein lies our promotion.

Confession:

I declare, I’m a rich man locating my inheritance, I am not a man in bondage seeking deliverance, and I’m a free man setting my sail for the free life in Christ. I am blessed.
