SPIRIT FILLED LIFE

"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit"
Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)
Main Text: Main Text: John 16:13

Apostle Paul admonishes us to be filled with the Spirit. This right here is the most important commandment for the New Testament church because it empowers you to fulfill other commandments effortlessly. You might wonder "didn't Jesus command us to Preach the gospel to all creation" isn't that more important? yes this is important, but to be filled with the Spirit is more important, because when you obey this commandment of being filled with the Spirit, you automatically fulfill or obey other commandments effortlessly. You will love easily, you preach easily, your life will become a wonder to your world. The fullness of the Spirit will settle all that concerns you.

This commandment was not given to a carnal church, it was given to the church at Ephesus and they were one of the most spiritual churches, yet Apostle Paul admonished them to be filled with the Spirit. If this was necessary for the Ephesian church, then it is necessary for us today. The Holy Spirit desires to have control of every area of your life, and if you allow him to, the success you are bound to have will be such as have never been seen before. 1 Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (KJV) John 16:13 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." (NIV)

You might wonder, why must I be filled with the Spirit? There are two basic reasons and they are expressed in one word, Power. Power over sin and Power in service. Scripture tells us we are victorious primarily because of the finished work of Christ Jesus, however, this does not become a reality in your life until you are Spirit filled. Romans 8:37 "In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us."  (CEV). Galatians 5:16 "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (KJV). It is only as you are filled with the Holy Ghost that you overcome your besetting sin, the Spirit makes you a victorious Christian.

The Christian life is the out living of the indwelling Christ. Power in service basically means to do the work of God effortlessly. Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (NLT). God desires to use you for His glory, He wants you to be the hope to your generation, he desires that you lead many to the commonwealth of Zion, however, the only way to do this effectively, is to be filled with the Spirit.

Confession:

The Greater One abides within me, I am of God therefore I overcome.
