FOLLOWING PARENTAL COUNSEL

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.”
Proverbs 4:20
Main Text:

It is an order from God to honour your parents, it’s therefore very important that you learn to heed godly instructions from them. In life, age speaks wisdom and experience teaches great things to those who care to listen. It’s a thing of joy if you find yourself in the arms of caring and loving spiritual or biological parents who at any given time will be ready to be interested about the issues of your life. It’s a treasure to hear their sayings and also to choose to follow their admonitions. The destruction of so many destinies today started from home. Good parents are from the Lord and if you have them please pay attention to their sayings.

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine ….” Proverbs 4:20-22.

Just like a plea and most of the time with tears, you find your mother coming close to beg you to be of godly character in all you do. Beloved, that’s a treasure. What you have now from your parents is a guide that the Lord put there. Except for very few, no parent will not like to see the good of their children. If at anytime you have a warning or correction from your parents (spiritual or biological) I advise that you to sit down first and consider all they have to say to you. They know better, they have seen far and wide. There’s this adage that when a young lad is cutting a tree, the adults around can tell where exactly it will fall.

When last did you obey your parents in the Lord? Do you have reservations about your biological father or mother? Oh, are you calling them ‘old school’? What about their counsel, have you weighed the options in line with the word of God? Listen to me, those words of advice are from the Lord. Pay close attention and avoid being rude when corrected.

Prayer: Lord, send to my path divine counsellors to show me where to go and correct me when I’m doing wrong.
