HONOR YOUR LEADERS

“And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.”
Matt 3:15
Main Text: Main text: Isaiah 58:9

John the Baptist, though without the sophistication or grandeur of Jesus Christ's ministry, was never criticized by Jesus. Instead, Jesus demonstrated humility and honor toward him. John lacked the refined location, garments, and miracles that characterized Jesus’ ministry, yet Jesus respected his role and authority.

In Matthew 3:15, Jesus said to John, “Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.” Even though Jesus was far greater and more anointed, He submitted to John’s baptism, acknowledging his role in God’s divine plan. This act highlights a crucial principle: honor precedes elevation.

When confronted by the Pharisees and scribes, Jesus referred them back to John’s baptism in Matthew 21:25, asking them, “The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?” This not only silenced their criticism but also affirmed John’s God-given ministry.

To fulfill your calling in God, you must embrace the principle of honoring those God has placed ahead of you. It is not about who is more anointed, influential, or accomplished. True greatness is found in humility and respect for spiritual authority. Romans 13:7 "Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor." Jesus modeled this when He submitted to John. Even if you are called to do greater works or have a unique assignment, never lose sight of the foundation laid by those who have gone before you.

Honoring others—be they spiritual fathers, mentors, or predecessors—reflects a heart aligned with God. Humility is the pathway to true greatness, and respect is the bridge to lasting impact. Follow Jesus’ example, and let the principle of honor guide your journey in fulfilling your divine calling. "Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor."

Confession:

I choose the path of honor. I honor my leaders as God’s appointed vessels, and in so doing, I align myself with His will. I enjoy the blessings of prosperity, favor, and divine promotion. Hallelujah!
