LEARN FROM THE RECHABITES 3
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master. If then I be a Father, where is mine honour?…
Malachi 1:6
Main Text:
A believer who honors God as Father will surely want to walk in accordance with His will, even if it is not convenient for him to do so. Another thing that is worthy of note is that the person who presented wine to the Rechabites was no less a person than Jeremiah the prophet whom they definitely knew to be a man that heard from the Lord. However, the respect that these men had for the prophet did not make them decide to follow his instruction which was contrary to the one their father had given them. They politely and respectfully declined his offer and gave him their reason for doing so. How happy will God be if every believer placed Him so high above! Unfortunately a lot of believers do not do that. Instead they have the attitude of the young prophet in 1Kings chapter 13. He received a very clear instruction from the Lord and when Jeroboam the king of Judah asked him to do something that was contrary to that instruction he was quick to refuse probably because he knew Jeroboam to be an evil and sinful man in the sight of the Lord. He said to the king in verses 8 and 9, “… I will not go in with thee...” Someone else in 11 refered to as “an old prophet” came and said to this young prophet, “… I am a prophet also as thou art... Bring him back ...that he may eat bread, and drink water…” Why did the young prophet listen to the old prophet but not to the king? The old prophet was a prophet and so the young man probably believed he could never be wrong, but the Bible says that he lied. We all have to be very careful. Yes, we have a duty to respect and honor our pastors and church leaders; but no believer, no matter how “spiritually tall”, should be allowed to to be god in the life of another believer.
Prayer: I refuse confusion over my life in Jesus name
