BE RICH UNTO GOD
“So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Luke 12:21
Main Text: Main Text: Luke 12:16-21
Jesus gave a parable about a certain rich man who believed it was wise to build his business empire without considering the kingdom of God. He expanded his wealth on every side, but never gave thought to the work of God. After achieving his success, he took all the glory for himself, thinking, "I am a shrewd businessman; I know how to read the signals that lead to great financial gain." At no point did he acknowledge that it was God who gave him the power to create wealth, as stated in Deuteronomy 8:18.
God called him a fool! It is foolish to be rich in this world and not rich toward God. True foolishness is building a business or career while neglecting to build the kingdom of God. The rich man’s downfall was in his failure to recognize that all his success was made possible by God. Being wealthy in the eyes of the world, but lacking in spiritual wealth and commitment to God’s kingdom, is the height of folly. True wisdom lies in using our resources and influence to further God's work, ensuring that we are rich not just in material things, but in heavenly treasure as well.
Be rich toward God—this is where true peace lies, and this is what it means to be a Christian. To follow Christ is to be sold out to the work of God. As Luke 12:31 says, "But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you." Seeking the advancement of God's kingdom on earth is a vital way to be rich toward the Lord.
To be rich in God is to prioritize His work above all else. Seek God, and work for Him wholeheartedly! Jesus instructed us not to worry about our lives, but instead, to focus on the work of God. When we put His kingdom first, all the other things we need will naturally follow. This is the secret to true prosperity, fulfillment, and peace.
Confession:
I am blessed and highly favored; I choose to be rich towards God and build His kingdom. I am fully sold out to kingdom advancement, in Jesus' name. Amen!
