WISDOM IS THE PRINCIPAL THING
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
Prov 4:7
Main Text: MAIN TEXT: Proverbs 4:5-9
The Bible declares that wisdom is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7), meaning it is first in order of importance. The word principal emphasizes that God desires man to prioritize wisdom above all else—above money, status, or any worldly possession. In Proverbs 4:5, we are instructed: “Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.” This verse provides a clear directive on the source of true wisdom—the words of God’s mouth. To be wise, we must draw near to God and immerse ourselves in His Word.
Wisdom is invaluable, and we must obtain it—no matter the cost! Whether it requires your money, time, or relationships, the pursuit of wisdom is worth every sacrifice. Proverbs 23:23 admonishes, “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” This verse emphasizes that wisdom is a treasure so precious that no price is too high to acquire it.
To gain wisdom, we must be intentional. Commit to studying the Scriptures, reading impactful books, listening to edifying teachings, and attending conferences or webinars relevant to your calling. Each of these investments enriches your understanding and equips you to navigate life skillfully.
The journey to wisdom requires effort and discipline. Be prepared to fight for it, prioritize it, and guard it jealously. As you “buy the truth and sell it not,” you position yourself to thrive and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

Prov 1:20-23 “Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.”
