PRAYERLESSNESS

“The men of Israel looked them over and accepted the evidence. But they didn't ask God about it.”
Joshua 9:14 (MSG)
Main Text: Psalm 5:1-3

Prayer is the lifeblood of a Christian’s walk with the Lord. Prayer connects us to God, prayer is an active way to love and connect with others and prayer makes room in the heart for the correcting voice of God. Scripture admonishes us to pray continuously (1 Thess. 5:17) therefore, anything other than a continuous attitude of prayer and communication with God is sin.

Prayerlessness is antithetical to a good relationship with God. God’s people will have a natural desire to communicate with their Lord. Ps 5:3 “In the morning You hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning I prepare [a prayer, a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart].” Prayerlessness ignores the gift of intercession that God has given us. We are called to pray for our brothers in Christ (James 5:16).

Many times in scripture, we see Israel didn’t consult the Lord and they paid dearly for it. Israel’s suffering could have been avoided had they prayed and asked God what to do. Because they didn’t inquire of the Lord, they were deceived and lacked discernment. No matter how good it looks, always turn to God in prayer first.

Confession: I am led by the Spirit, therefore, I choose to take my directions from the Lord. I am disciplined to wait on Him. I make right choices by obeying His voice, in Jesus name. Amen.

Further Reading: 1 Samuel 12:23 (AMP) “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.” Matthew 26:41 (AMP) “All of you must keep awake (give strict attention, be cautious and active) and watch and pray, that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
