PRAYER – THE PLACE OF THE WORD

“Yet even when you do pray, your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons.”
James 4:3 (CEV)
Main Text:

Prayer is not an emotional release. It’s much more than asking God for a favor. Most importantly, it’s not a religious exercise. The word of God is highly important when praying because you are basically praying back God’s word to Him. You are reminding Him of His promises over your life. James the Lord’s brother mentions that when we pray, we don’t get answers because we pray for selfish gains. However, one of the reasons we don’t get answers is because we pray amiss, we don’t pray the word, we most times allow emotions enter our prayers and it weakens our faith to receive. Our prayer life can seem monotonous if we’re praying the same thing over again and this is because, we don’t know how to pray or what new things to pray about.

Psalm 119:18 “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” (KJV). The number one rule to an effective prayer life, is to base your prayer on God’s word. It can be relied on just as you would depend on the words from your spouse, parents or friends. God’s word has fidelity. The integrity of His word is ever sure, therefore, it is important your prayers are based on His word. Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (KJV) 2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (NKJV)

God’s word is His will. When you pray in line with the Word, you’ve automatically prayed in line with the will of God. 1 John 5:14-15 “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us… we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” (NKJV) when we pray based on His word, he hears us and answers come speedily.

Confessions: I declare, I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, the Greater One lives inside of me, I am conscious of my heritage in Christ Jesus, therefore, I possess all that belongs to me from the North, the South, the East & the West.
