THE SPIRITUAL SACRIFICE OF PRAYER

“And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.”
Luke 9:28
Main Text: Main Text: Luke 18:1

According to Merriam- Webster dictionary, a sacrifice is an act of offering to a deity something precious. Prayer is considered a sacrifice for several reasons. Firstly, it demands time, which we often hesitate to give unless deeply committed. Human nature typically prioritizes worldly activities over spiritual ones. Secondly, prayer involves giving: it requires redirecting our thoughts towards contemplating God's qualities and surrendering our minds to spiritual matters.

There are countless ways we can choose to spend our time, but when we intentionally deny worldly pleasures to commune with our Heavenly Father, this act itself becomes a significant sacrifice that is valued by the Lord our God. Ps 141:2 “Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.”

Prayer is a sacrifice that yields remarkable dividends. As believers, it is through prayer that we achieve breakthroughs and experience God's transformative power in our lives.
