WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

“Now Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, but had departed from Saul”
1 Samuel 18:12
Main Text:

It’s so easy to say what somebody ought to have done or ought not to have done, when we study the scripture. We’ll say, “Oh! David should not have had intercourse with Bathsheba; Samson should not have lusted after Delilah”, etc. But at times, I think we should stop and think about how even we too have taken some wrong decisions that we ordinarily never thought we could have made. At times, the situation around is so complex; such that we ignore to do the right thing due to pressure. But in all, we would understand and live better if we could put ourselves in the shoes of those we read about in the Bible. Let’s consider what you would have done if you were in Saul’s shoes in the text above.

Saul was just like every other man that loved God. He never contested for any position, but one day, someone in the office of a prophet just walked up to him and said God has anointed you king. Bear in mind that in the whole history, that was the first time the people, the Israelites, would ever have a king. But one day, Saul refused to completely do all that God commanded and that was it - he was rejected as king and one of his servants was chosen in his place.

Imagine your house help become the owner of everything you once had and owned (God forbid you say!). The next reaction is likely to be hatred and that was exactly what Saul showed.

Beloved, know that promotion comes only from God (as a Christian) Ps 75:6, and He does what He wishes. When you find yourself in a rejected position and you know it’s because of something wrong that you’ve done, the earlier you plead for mercy, the better. Being led of the Spirit is doing things as Christ would have. I tell you, God is able to deliver you.

Prayer: That I may know my place in you, oh Lord.
