TAKE UP YOUR CROSS AND THINK OF OTHERS
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Luke 9:23
Main Text: MAIN TEXT: MATTHEW 28:18-20
In the Christian faith, the concept of “others” is more than just a guiding principle—it is a reflection of the very heart of Christianity. By following Jesus’ example of selflessness and turning away from the nature of selfishness, we align ourselves with God’s purposes and come to understand the true essence of Christian living.
Jesus’ call to discipleship is clear: “If anyone wants to be my disciple, they must take up their cross and deny themselves” (Matthew 16:24). This profound directive challenges us to move beyond our personal comfort and convenience, embracing a life of sacrifice and service.
In our contemporary context, it’s not uncommon to see individuals with financial means opting out of evangelism, citing busy schedules, business commitments, or other distractions. However, these excuses often mask a deeper issue—selfishness. When we prioritize our own interests over the call to spread the gospel, we miss out on the essence of true discipleship.
Consider the example of Nabal from the Old Testament, who chose to ignore the needs of others despite his abundance. His lack of generosity and self-centered attitude serve as a cautionary tale. In contrast, Jesus teaches that seeking the kingdom of God first (Matthew 6:33) is the true path to preserving and flourishing in our resources.
Evangelism is not solely the responsibility of those who are financially disadvantaged; it is a universal call for both the rich and the poor. The mission of spreading the gospel requires the involvement of every believer, regardless of their economic status. Each of us is called to take up our cross, setting aside personal comforts and priorities to ensure that the message of Christ reaches every corner of the world.
By stepping out of our comfort zones and committing ourselves to the work of evangelism, we align with God’s purposes and embody the spirit of selfless love that Jesus exemplified. Let us remember that true discipleship involves more than just following; it requires us to actively participate in the mission of bringing the good news to all.
Confession:
I commit to taking up my cross each day, embracing the call to follow Jesus with dedication and sacrifice. I lay aside my own desires and ambitions, choosing instead to live a life that reflects His teachings and example. I am devoted to serving others with humility and love. I actively seek opportunities to help, support, and uplift those around me. My service is motivated by a genuine desire to reflect the love of Christ and to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Matt 16:24-27 “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”
