WICKEDNESS!
“Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousnessâ€
Psalm 52:3
Main Text:
When John Wesley was in college, his mother one day wrote him: “If you are temtped to be judge of the lawfulness or the unlawfulness of a pleasure, use this rule: Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off the desire of spiritual things; whatever increases the authority of your body over your mind, that thing, to you, is wickedness”.
From our text, David described Doeg, an Edomite, as a dangerous and an ungodly man. Doeg, the chief herdsman to Saul, had gone to his master to tell him that David had gone to Ahimelech’s house. This gave the impression that Ahimelech was being disloyal to the king. He found solace to always magnify and intensify king Saul’s hatred for David, who, consequent upon this development, was forced to live a fugitive life.
Today, some believers are like Doeg, having deceitful and destructive tongues. The worst sort of thing is when a person tells a half truth for the sake of doing evil and bringing ruin to others. Yet, some people love evil and regale falsehood. They engage in whispering and backbiting. There could be times when wickedness might triumph and it would appear that God turns a blind eye to the evil deeds of men. God might have His reasons for prolonging judgment. But we must realize that God will hold us responsible for our words and actions. Solomon said: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret things, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
Beloved, let the joy of the Lord fills your heart, then you will know that wickedness will find it very difficult to have its place in your life. The joy of the Lord is the strength and weapon that triumph over wickedness.
Prayer: Deliver me from evil workers and deceivers
