RECEIVING THE WORD WITH MEEKNESS
“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”
James 1:21
Main Text: Main text: Ephesians 1:13
It's crucial that we receive God's Word with humility and meekness. This attitude reflects a heart open to being guided and transformed by the truth of Scripture. The Word of God is designed to edify, direct, and reprove us, providing the foundation for our spiritual growth and maturity. As we submit to God's Word, we acknowledge His authority and recognize that it is through His wisdom that we find the direction we need for our lives. 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
This passage emphasizes that the entire Bible is inspired by God and serves multiple purposes, including teaching us truth, correcting our mistakes, and guiding us in the way of righteousness. When we receive God's Word with humility, we allow it to accomplish these purposes in our lives.
Meekness, though often misconstrued as weakness or passivity, actually embodies a strong and gentle spirit that is receptive to learning and change. It involves a sense of humility and a desire to align with God's will. This attitude enables us to grow in wisdom and character as we embrace the teachings and corrections found in Scripture. By approaching God's Word with meekness, we create space for God to work within us, refining our hearts and minds to become more like Christ. This transformation equips us for every good work, enabling us to serve others and further God's kingdom with effectiveness and love.
Prayer:
Father, I receive Grace to receive God’s word with humility and meekness, I subject myself to it’s teachings and corrections. In Jesus name, Amen.
