CONTENTMENT, a TOOL TO REST

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
1 Timothy 6:6 (KJV)
Main Text: 1 Timothy 6:5-9

Contentment is the state of being mentally or emotionally satisfied with things as they are. In today’s world, it’s rare that we find anyone who is truly content with his or her condition in life. The Bible defines contentment for us as “a sense of inward sufficiency”; and that “godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Paul, said, “For we brought nothing into the world, and obviously we cannot take anything out of the world; but if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied). But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction and miserable perishing” (1 Timothy 6:7-9 AMPC).

Jesus Christ is the mystery of godliness (1 Tim. 3:16) His presence in your life is your hope of becoming the person God has called you to be. In Christ, you have entered into God’s rest through contentment. You no longer worry over your rent and other bills. As Abraham’s seed, you’re ever aglow, full of praise and giving glory to God.

Contentment is finding joy in what God has given you. The opposite of contentment is greed which destroys your capacity to enjoy what God has given you. Contentment is not something that comes quickly, easily or naturally. Paul said I have learnt to be content (Phil. 4:12) therefore, you learn contentment by following the precept of Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Thank you Father because You are the true source of wealth, satisfaction, fulfillment and contentment. In the name of Jesus, the spirit of greed and covetousness is destroyed.
