WHAT IS RIGHTEOUSNESS?

Righteousness is a free gift of God provided by Jesus at Calvary through the grace of God. It’s not a “goody-goody” way of acting or something which can be attained. This doesn’t refer to your own righteousness – our righteousness is described as a filthy rag before God according to Isaiah 64:6.

However, we have been gifted the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We have sometimes confused righteousness with holiness.

We think righteousness is the way we act. That is erroneous thinking. Holiness is your conduct – righteousness is what you are, the nature of God. Righteousness literally means to be in right standing. When we accept Jesus as Lord, we have been put in right standing with God. Jesus is the Mediator between God and man.

When we accepted Christ, something changed in our status. We moved into a position of new birth. We entered the Kingdom of God as God’s very own child and joint heir with Jesus Christ. Romans 8:17 “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ”.

As believers, we are to put on the breastplate of righteousness and wear it victoriously bringing the force of righteousness into operation. Ephesians 6:14 “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness.” Mark 16:18 “They will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (NKJV)

Righteousness then becomes a driving force, a security force that will rise up within you and cause you to meet Satan face to face. It will enable you to face the storms of life and triumph over them.

The reality of your righteous status, enables you (a believer) to do the impossible. Jesus died so you could be righteous, you are not an old washed up sinner! You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! Hallelujah!

Confession: I declare, I am the righteousness of God in Christ! Therefore, I live a victorious life! I have the divine life in me! The Greater One lives inside of me! I am blessed!
