UNDERSTANDING THE LAW OF CHRIST 1

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psalm 19: 7
Main Text:

A young boy said to his Sunday school teacher: “The Bible says that we should look unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2) and that we should have no other gods beside Him (Exodus 20:3). Don’t you think that by teaching us to look at and learn from the lives and experiences of Christians who have been in faith before us you are encouraging us to go contrary to the word of God?” The teacher explained to the boy that it’s true that Paul said, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that we should look unto Jesus the Author and the Finisher of our faith, but the same Paul, also speaking by the inspiration of the same Spirit of God, said in 1Corinthians 4:16, “Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.”  Also, Philippians 3:17, and Philippians 4:9, The teacher then went on to explain to the little boy the relevance of each of those scriptures.

Many times as a Christian while studying the scriptures you come across statements that seem to contradict one another, and you begin to wonder which of the two statements God wants you to pick and which one you should ignore. You probably have caught yourself asking why the Bible says that God is not the author of confusion if in His word He said several things that seem to contradict each other. For instance, Proverbs 26:4 says, “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.” Then the very next verse says, “Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.” You ask yourself: “What exactly does the Lord want me to do – answer a fool according to his folly, or not?” What does God expect us to do – ask Him to repay people with the same thing they have done to us, or ask Him not to hold it against them? This continues please.

Prayer: I receive understanding of your word O Lord
