HIS MERCY ENDURES STILL

“… His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life”
Psalm 30: 5
Main Text:

One of the things that man can satisfactorily enjoy in God is mercy and again God’s mercy has no discrimination because both believers and non-believers enjoy it; The Bible says His mercies endure forever.

A common adage says that Grace gives what we do not deserve, i.e., Eternal Life, while Mercy withholds what we do deserve, i.e., Eternal Punishment; but, Mercy goes much deeper, in that it is the Loving-kindness of God.

[The Hebrew word, checed, means mercy]. In the Old Testament, of the 248 times that the Hebrew word checed is found in the Authorized Version (KJV), 149 times of it is rendered mercy, 40 times it is rendered kindness, and 30 times it is rendered loving-kindness. "How excellent is Thy loving-kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Thy wings" (36:7).

When God asked David what He would choose as an option in 3 level of punishment – (1) 3 years of famine, or (2) 3 months to be defeated by his enemy, or (3) 3 days to fall into the hands of God by the sword, David chose option three. I don’t really know what David got so sure of that made him opt for the 3rd but I know one of the things that came to his mind was that God is ever full of mercy. This made him say that “God may be angry for a moment, but His mercy endures for life”.

Today, I don’t know what you are faced with but like David said, “His favour is for life” just hold on and hang on, His mercy endures still. He (God) cannot really stand watching His own children suffer for long, no matter what they did to offend Him, Jer. 3:14, hold on and seek His mercy for your situation round the clock.

Prayer: Lord, let Your countenance shine upon me and show me your loving kindness again.
