THE PERILS OF ADULTERY IN THE HOME

“The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; he who would destroy himself does it. Wounds and disgrace he will find, and his reproach will not be blotted out. For jealousy enrages a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.”
Proverbs 6:32-34
Main Text: Main Text: Hebrews 13:4

Adultery, defined simply, is marital infidelity. It involves one partner engaging in sexual relations with someone outside the marriage, and the consequences can be devastating. As Jessie Warner explains, “Unhealthy soul ties can be created when you choose to lust after another person, making it difficult to break free from sin without God’s intervention.” The fleeting thrill of attraction or a “crush” on someone other than your spouse may seem harmless at first, but the repercussions can be life-altering.

When you indulge in such thoughts or behaviors, you risk losing your spouse, your family, and your peace. You could face financial burdens from child support and legal issues, suffer from marital strife, and become a poor example to other believers. Most importantly, you would stand guilty before God—a terrifying reality.

The Bible instructs us to guard our hearts and flee from temptation. When you sense an attraction, it’s crucial to act decisively. Proverbs 27:12 warns us, “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.” The cost of adultery is extraordinarily high; take a moment to evaluate whether it’s truly worth it.

One common trap is believing you’re somehow “above” the sin of adultery. However, 1 Corinthians 10:12 cautions us: “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”

Prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask for Your discipline and strength to resist any lust in my heart. Amen.
