WHEN ‘SAMUEL DIES’

Then Samuel died and all Israelites gathered together...
I Samuel 25: 1
Main Text:

Visibly full of pain, a sister who had something very important for which she was trusting the Lord said to another sister who had been praying for and counseling her but was now moving to settle in a very distant land: “Your ministry in my life is not finished yet and you are going; what is going to happen to me now? For that sister, “Samuel” had just “died”.

It may be your unit leader whom the Lord has used to build you up in His service; he has always encouraged you when you felt you could no longer go on; he has assured you several times, by the Spirit of God, that you will go very far in the Lord; his presence has always given you assurance that all will be well. Suddenly, he is going away. “Samuel has died”.

It may even be a big boss in your office in whose heart the Lord has placed a special love for you and who has always protected your interest. He is determined to see you rise as high as possible in the organization and at every opportunity he has, he puts in a good word for you with the powers that be in the organization. Then one day you hear that he has been fired. “Samuel is dead”.

Has your “Samuel died” without you first seeing the manifestation of what God promised you through “him”? It happened to David too. In I Samuel chapter 16, God sent Samuel to anoint David as king over His people. Saul, who was still on the throne then, hated David and wanted to get rid of him. David had to run from one place to the other to escape dying in Saul’s hand. Probably, the knowledge that Samuel was still around would have given David some assurances that God’s word would still come to pass. But then in chapter 25 verse 1, the Bible reported that Samuel died (and David was still not sitting on the throne). David still kept fighting to stay alive;

Prayer: Help me to keep believing You.
