DON’T FALL FOR GREED
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
Proverbs 15:27
Main Text:
Greed isn't just a new sin known by drive for material possessions. Greed was obviously around in the Bible times. That's why God has so much to say about it. To understand what God is concerned about, we need to look at Jesus' teaching in Matthew 6. Greed seals our conscience and prevents our listening to the Holy Spirit. It makes us feel we can secure ourselves and please ourselves by our material possession rather than honoring our relationship with God. Can you believe that greed makes us small before God?
Greed is dangerous because it reveals a heart condition and it destroys our capacity to trust God for anything. Remember the state of mind of Lot when he parted with Abraham? It was greed that sent him to Sodom. Greed easily can trigger loss in life. When you over price your goods, you turn away those who should have patronized you to others.
Greed can rob you of opportunities. Proverbs 1:19 says greed gradually erodes the life of the greedy. According to Proverbs 15:27, it is greed that makes people to take or ask for bribes, the same greed will cause them and their families lots of pain. Imagine a retired top senior military officer that was just released to his family after aver 4 years in EFCC custody? Greed! The greedy fellow lives in fear. The greedy is an enemy of God and man. Men will curse such a man (Proverbs 11:26) and the judgment of God is on such a person (Ezekiel 22:12-14). Have you been greedy? Has your greed made you to offend others? Repent and restitute your ways. Return what you have acquired unjustly from your victims and make your ways right before God. Don’t just think you can impress God with your ungodly offerings here and there, infact, you are only making the matter worse if you don’t repent. Be contented with what God gives to you. Read:
Prayer: Every trace of greed in my life, Father, uproot and destroy it today.
