BE TEACHABLE, BE SUBMISSIVE

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Ephesians 5:23
Main Text:

As part of efforts to ensure that all things are done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40), the Lord instituted leadership. For instance, the husband is the head of the wife and God so respects a husband’s authority over his wife and that Christians are expected to keep their promises (Psalm 15:4). In the church there are pastors, deacons, ministry heads, etc. and everyone knows whom he/she should report to. However, we see situations where a wife feels that she has more understanding of spiritual things and more of God’s grace and anointing than her husband, and so whether consciously or unconsciously she disregards the man’s authority; she decides what she wants to do for God or receives a word from Him and goes ahead to carry it out without seeking the husband’s consent. In the church there are people who feel that they do not have to answer to anybody because they have spiritual gifts.

1Samuel 16:15-19, “And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. Let our lord now command thy servants… to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: …when the evil spirit from God is upon thee …he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me. Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing… Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son…” It is interesting to note that Saul’s servants knew what would be good for their master; one of them even knew that David could be of help. However, these men did not take matters into their hands and invite David over. They first sought their master’s permission.

Prayer: I receive a teachable heart as I live O Lord
