HOUR OF DOUBTS

“And he said unto them why are ye troubled? And why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Luke 24:38
Main Text:

Some situations in life make us lose faith and doubt our beliefs. Take your mind back and imagine you were in Jerusalem during the crucifixion of Jesus. This is a man that has healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water and fed incredible number of people. Yet he didn’t deliver himself from His captors. He was arrested, beaten, tortured and hanged. Some might have argued about His genuineness, some laughed at his followers, others sympathized, but a lot of his followers had lost faith.

Such was the state of mind of Cleopas and his friends as they walked home to Emmaus. So engrossed were they in their discussion, that even when Jesus joined them they could not discern him. Doubt clouds our vision; it makes us to see only the storm, but not the stiller of the storm. Doubt makes us sink like Peter when he walked on the water at Jesus’s bidding. Peter literally saw the wind and he began to sink, until Jesus stretched forth his hand to rescue him. Matthew 14:28-31. We all pass through the Emmaus road experience, when you wonder if you heard God well concerning that career, job, business, marriage or decision. You might have felt led to help someone, who later turns and stabs your back. In times like this doubt questions your belief system. It clouds your faith you find it difficult to trust anyone.

Cleopas and his friends talked to Jesus about how their belief had been shattered by the death of Jesus and now rumours of his resurrection, but Jesus gently explained to them the scriptures from the time of Mosses to the prophets. They confessed after they recognized Jesus their hearts burnt within them when He talked with them on the way.

My brother, my sister comfort and encouragement only lies in the word of God and the Holy Spirit. Tell all your doubts and fears to God and let his word wash them away and strengthen your faith in Him.

Prayer: Comforter make my life comfortable
