THE CHRISTIAN PARENT'S MANDATE
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
Hebrews 12:11
Main Text: Main Text: Proverbs 13:24
The primary mission of Christian parenting is to guide children toward a saving faith in Christ and to help them mature in His likeness, growing into the full measure of His glory (Ephesians 4:13). Parenting is one of the most significant callings God gives us. Children are a gift and blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5), and raising them with loving discipline brings joy and peace to a home. The Bible emphasizes this, stating that parents who fail to discipline their children are showing a lack of love for them (Proverbs 13:24).
A key aspect of Christian parenting is cultivating sound doctrine through regular, age-appropriate Bible study. Taking advantage of “teachable moments” allows children to learn both biblical principles and how to apply Christian character in daily life. Open communication is crucial in building this foundation—encourage your children to share their thoughts and feelings, and be equally transparent with them in a way they can understand. Though there may be times when your children resist opening up, they will always need your guidance, support, and encouragement.
Involving your children in the church family and ministry at a young age is essential. Regularly attending a Bible-believing church (Hebrews 10:25) and studying the Word both personally and with your children will anchor them in the faith. Discuss the world around them through the lens of God’s glory and teach them how to see His hand in everyday life. As Proverbs 22:6 teaches, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Parenting is about raising children who will follow in your footsteps of obedience and worship to the Lord.
Prayer:
In the name of Jesus, my children will follow the statutes and precepts of the Lord and walk in His ways.
