STAND FOR THE TRUTH!

“All these had taken strange wives and some of them had wives by whom they had children
Ezra 10:44
Main Text:

Ezra’s reformatory work among the Jewish returnees in our text was attended with great and complicated difficulties. Many of the returnees were unlawfully married. Among them were five children of Jozadak, leaders of the congregation. These were they who should have led others in the right way but now by their shameful example have emboldened the common members of the congregation to do likewise. When those who should have provided good examples of right living are the ones that profane the holy calling by irreverent attitudes against God’s Word. It takes a leader with boldness and good courage to apply appropriate sanctions and lead the people back to God.

Ezra was such a leader. Assisted by a few other distinguished leaders, he led the erring people of God to repentance and restitution. The response of the people was commendable. They at once gave their word and gave an offering, a mark of acknowledgment and reparation for their sins.

Today, we need courageous leaders who will be able to preach against sin to both the poor and the rich. In our work of reconciling men to God, we cannot afford to spare the rich and the great.

The world is still in need of bold and courageous preachers who themselves must be above reproach to declare unto great men their transgressions and to common men their sin. The saying that “he that goes to equity must come with clean hands” must be the guiding principle for every believer who want to truly get enlisted in this honourable task of reconciling men to God.

Our people will be saved only by the power of preaching and prayer just as it happened to the Jews of Ezra’s dispensation. Do your own part. The King’s message demands urgency and you cannot afford to delay. Defend the truth at all times.

Prayer: Help me to be bold enough in speaking your Word today
