THE WAGES OF SIN
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Rom 6:23
Main Text: Main text: Luke 16:19-31
The word "wages" connotes payment; it depicts the reward for a job done. This means that our life here on earth is like a job, and when we depart, there are two forms of payment: one is a wage, and the other is a salary. The wages of sin is death, while the salary of righteousness is life. In Luke 16:19-31, we see this clearly illustrated as Lazarus was paid with life, while the rich man was paid with eternal death.
The rich man was accustomed to a life of luxury, comfort, and pleasure, but he forgot that there is life beyond this world. He allowed his wealth to control him, rather than using it wisely. God is not against you being wealthy—in fact, He takes pleasure in your prosperity and doesn’t want you to be poor. However, He is against wealth having you. The rich man, who let his riches dominate him, was buried when he died, and hell came to meet him. The Bible says in Isaiah 14:9, "Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming..." Hell met the rich man because he remained in sin, but Lazarus was carried into eternal pleasure.
The rich man, tormented in hell, didn't want anyone else to suffer the same fate. The torment he experienced was beyond anything we can imagine. He pleaded for just a drop of water, but the answer was no. Every request he made was denied. In hell, there are no answered prayers; even those who suddenly become eager to evangelize find themselves turned down. But here, we have the incredible privilege to share the gospel and win souls for Christ. Let’s not take this opportunity for granted. We must reach out to the lost and save them from the horrors of hell. Jesus’ return is not a joke—we must be urgent in our mission to win the lost!
Prayer:
I acknowledge that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. I am fully aware of the eternal consequences of sin, and I am committed to being a beacon of light in this world. I ensure to win the lost for the Lord Jesus Christ. My heart burns with passion for those who do not yet know Him, and I dedicate myself to sharing the gospel with them. I am a vessel of God’s love and grace, reaching out to those who are perishing and leading them to the saving knowledge of Jesus.
