NO OTHER HIGH PRIEST
“So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest: but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, today have I begotten theeâ€
Hebrews 5:5
Main Text:
‘‘One is not superior merely because one sees the world in a detestable light”, a 19th century French writer was quoted as saying: Religious Jews of the early centuries looked at Christianity with disdain. They were at a loss to understand a Christian religion without a high priest since the office of a high priest was regarded as an essential feature in Jewish religion.
Paul the apostle, having the faith of the Hebrew’s converts in mind expounded the scriptures unto them in our text to have them established in the truth and prevent deflections based on this false sentiment. He made comparisons on the qualifications for the office of the Jewish high priest and confirmed it as only illustrated in Christ, our great High Priest.
Our Saviour is exalted far above all created beings both in the heaven and on the earth. He is greater than angels, principalities and powers. In His position, titles and power, He is above all.
The Christian convert cannot afford to have any misgivings about his new faith. You must read the scriptures and let your faith anchor on the Word of God and not on morals and sentiments John 5:39.
There is no other high priest in the fashion of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is higher than any known religious figure and every true believer must reverence Him. God has chosen Him and exalted Him above every other god; we must obey Him always for He is the image of the Father.
We must not despise the simple steps of faith to salvation or the pure heart of worship in the true Christian church, and the Lord has promised that “where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them”. Christ is our Great High Priest; no controversy.
Prayer: I worship you only my God my High Priest.
