THE EASILY ATTACHED IDOLS

“The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.”
Psalm 135: 15
Main Text:

A simple definition of idol worship is to believe that anything beside God can help us, or to hold something as more important to us than God. Thus if we hold our property (for example) as more important than God /or give our jobs more time and attention than God - we are committing idol worship.

Unfortunately, the majority of people who believe in God commit this gross offense without even realizing it. If you ask them, "who is your God?’ They will be outraged to hear this question. "What do you mean by who is your God?' They will ask, `My God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth.' “And most of these people will be shocked to find out that their proclamation that their God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth is no more than lip say. The Bible says in Psalm 135 vs. 18 & 19 that, “they that made them are like them and so are those who trust in them”.

I have heard of a brother who tortured his12years old son for scratching his highly revered Honda Pilot car. That to me was too much to understand. For some of us, money is the idol we worship. It seems very difficult for some people to part with their resources. To some others, their belly is their god, junky food cannot pass them untasted. How can we quickly forget that. All these have their ‘great recompense of rewards’. Do not be a terrorist by virtue of your earthly possession. God expects that you bless life with your possessions. A great lesson one can learn about Dorcas was that, her good deeds spoke for her when she died. People were able to tell about the good legacies. What will people say about you? Think about this.

Prayer:  Help me to find my way in You alone in Jesus name (Amen).
