The Promise of Joy

“for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 14:17
Main Text: Main text: Nehemiah 8:10

God wants us to have the best in life, but unless we know how to lay hold of the awesome and wonderful things He made available to us, we’ll never receive them. This type of frustration isn’t God’s will; it’s not His nature to dangle something unattainable in front of us. Whatever we’re hoping and praying for, we must believe it’s already done through the finished works of Christ. Having faith in what grace has made is important, because otherwise we’ll waste our efforts trying to get God to do something He already did.
Most people want to experience joy and happiness, and some people spend their entire life pursuing it. Joy can be defined as an emotional state of being or a feeling of elation, but many people miss the mark when searching exclusively for it. The world’s definitions of joy are incomplete and impartial, because those definitions can change at any time. To learn the truth about how to find it, we must search through the Bible.
God’s joy goes deeper than just a sense of elation or exhilaration. When we believe His promises to us, even in situations when we don’t feel happy now, we still have a supernatural sense of joyful peace. It’s higher, deeper, and wider than any ocean, and we simply know it’s from His presence. “Rejoice always, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16, 18, NKJV). God wants us to know that the kind of happiness greater than we could ever imagine is found only through Him.
Confession:
The Joy of the Lord is my strength, I walk in the blessedness of Joy! Amen! The fruit of the spirit Joy takes preeminence in my life.
