THE GRIP OF DEATH IS OVER
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come
Romans 5:14
Main Text: 2 Peter 1:2-4
Adam lost out dominion through disobedience to God’s instruction thereby making Satan to become the god of this world, thus allowing the full scale operations of death on the earth. Remember, God had said to Adam, “…in the day that thou eatest thereof (the tree) thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:17). He was talking about spiritual death; of course the spiritual death is the cause of physical death.
If I may ask you, who had the power of death in the true sense of it? The Bible says, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). Satan was actually behind this reign of death. Interestingly, the reign of death ended by the Law of Moses, for the reign of death was from Adam to Moses according to Romans 5:14. The fear of death keeps people in bondage. But Jesus Christ came to set men free from the fear of death. The Bible says, “Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him” (Romans 6:9).
The good news is that, if death has no more dominion over Christ, it doesn’t have dominion over any of His joint-heirs; death has no power over you. The Bible says you’ve been brought into life and immortality (2 Timothy 1:10)
Confession
I’m fearless, for death has been paralyzed, completely defeated by Jesus! O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? When Jesus defeated death, I was in Him, and together with Him, I’ve triumphed over death and the grave!
