PROSPERITY FOR THE BELIEVERS
“For you shall eat the fruit of [the labor of] your hands, You will be happy and blessed and it will be well with you.”
Psalms 128:2
Main Text: Joshua 1:8
Many people see prosperity only in financial terms, and they measure it by how much money they have accumulated. This is a very narrow view of something God wants for all areas of our lives. True prosperity covers not only our finances, but also our health, our relationships, and our ability to succeed where others fail. The world may try to shame us into thinking that it’s selfish to prosper, but it’s actually God’s will for those whose motivation is to bless others. We make a mistake when we think we’re our own source for all our needs. God blesses us with every good thing that we have, so adopting a stewardship mindset brings us into agreement with His Word. As faithful stewards we manage what God gave us; however, we must broaden our way of thinking to include more than just our own wealth. Managing God’s affairs also includes responsibilities like feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, and helping those in need.
In Jesus’ parable about the ten virgins, the oil in their lamps can represent the oil of anointing, and also the affairs of God. Those who wisely manage their oil position themselves to receive His favor. Drawing from this story, how well we manage our oil determines our future. The parable of the man traveling to a distant country and giving talents to his servants teaches us that God wants to bless us with good things, but He also wants us to be good stewards by increasing those things.
God’s will is for us to prosper, both physically and spiritually. Trusting Him positions us for blessings and prosperity. We have good success when we meditate on and apply His Word to our lives. In this way, we allow Him to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Prayer
Lord, Your will is for us to gain a true perspective on what it means to be prosperous. In You, we’re no longer limited by the world’s view on prosperity. Thank You for being our source not only financially, but in every other area of our lives, as well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
