UNITE AGAINST THE STORM
“Stand fast in one spirit with one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospelâ€
Philippians 1: 27
Main Text:
When we stand together as Christians, we can endure the fierce that is raised to destroy our purpose in Christ. The Christians in Benue, Taraba and Jos in North Central Nigeria are not having the best of time with their belief in Christ as a result of the crisis around there. The killings and maimings by militia. Cow rustlers and herdsmen had sent many to their untimely grave. This is the time we all must rise in prayers and raise support to help them in this stormy time.
But when we isolate ourselves, or if we’re abandoned by those who should be there to uphold us, we are most likely going to fall.
I read an account some years ago on a violent wind storm that swept through the Washington state in America. Many trees that stood alone were blown off. But those that grew tightly together in the forest like the fir trees did not fall because they were strengthened by their intertwining roots. They were able to withstand the strong winds. What they couldn’t achieve and withstand as an individual tree, they were able to do together.
As followers of Christ, we need each other, especially in this stormy time. Paul told the believers in Philippians to “stand fast in one spirit” Phil. 1: 27 – 2:3-4. We too are to join arms and hearts, offering encouragement and hope in our struggles. This is no time to gossip your pastor in a salon, this is not time to make jest of your church and leaders in the market, it is not the right time to speak evil of one another in as a body of Christ.
I know this: when we stand together, we are better able to withstand the storm. This is one of the reasons you should join a house fellowship so that we can share the burden all together. Think! May be your pain right now is because you’re standing alone.
Prayer: Lord, bind us together with love that can’t be broken.
