THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT – WHAT IS FAITHFULNESS?

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23(NKJV)
Main Text:

Faithfulness is steadfastness, constancy or allegiance. It is carefulness in keeping what we are entrusted with. It is the conviction that the scriptures accurately reflect with reality. According to ISB Encyclopedia, “Faithfulness is a quality or attribute applied in the Scripture to both God and man. Faithfulness is one of the characteristics of God's ethical nature. It denotes the firmness or constancy of God in His relations with men, especially with His people. It is, accordingly, one aspect of God's truth and of His unchangeableness. God is true…He is constant or faithful in keeping His promises, and therefore is worthy of trust.”

Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit, it is the result of the Spirit working in us, the Spirit is also the seal of our faithfulness. God, likewise, is unchangeable in His ethical nature. This unchangeableness the Scripture often connects with God's goodness and mercy, and also with His constancy in reference to His covenant promises, and this is what the Old Testament means by the Faithfulness of God in Psalm 36:5.

Hebrews 11 gives a long list of faithful men and women in the Old Testament who trusted God. Abel’s understanding of God made his sacrifice real and authentic. Noah trusted God’s word about the coming judgment as well as God’s promise to save His family.

Rahab trusted God to protect her family when the Israelites destroyed Jericho (Joshua 6). Faithfulness is believing God is who He says He is and continuing in that belief despite the challenges of life. Consequently, that means we must trust God’s word and not what the world tells us. 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (KJV) As believers, our foundation must be God’s word not what we see around us. Read John 20:29, and Romans 4:3

Confession: I bless myself this day, death and life are in the power of the tongue, therefore I declare and decree The Favor God surrounds me like a shield, I expect doors to open unto me. In the name of Jesus from this moment forward, I see myself the way God sees me. I am crowned with glory and honor. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
