BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him.”
Ephesians 5:18 (AMP)
Main Text: Luke 4:1

The Apostle Paul was not suggesting, neither was he recommending that these early Christians be filled with the Spirit. He wasn’t politely given them a piece of advice. He wasn’t given them an option. It was a command! The word filled in the Greek tongue means to pervade or to take possession of. When a believer is truly filled, the Holy Spirit takes possession of him. He controls that person, he brings that persons will, mind, emotions and actions into the place of obedience and conformity to the Word of God. Jesus was filled with the Holy Ghost, he walked in the spirit — He was responsive to and controlled by the Holy Spirit. He lived His entire life in submission, obedience and conformity to God’s plan and purpose for His life.

A lot of Christians who are hungry to have the power of God operating in their lives, they want the gifts of the Spirit operating through them, they desire to be used by God. However, very few come into that experience because a lot of believers have not died to self.

There can be no real life in the Spirit unless there is first a death to self. It is impossible for a Christian to live in the fullness of the Holy Spirit if he’s or her desires and appetites are controlled by the flesh. To live in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, you must set your attention on the things of the Spirit.

Prayer

Father I thank You for your Spirit in dwelling in me, I dedicate myself to the Holy Spirit and this day choose to be sensitive to His voice in Jesus name. Amen
