LIVING FOR HIM
“And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose
II Corinthians 5: 15
Main Text:
How many of us are really living for Christ in this world of temptations here and there?
Ralph Hudson was born in Ohio in 1843, he moved with his parents to Pennsylvania when he was a young boy. Responding to the outbreak of America’s Civil War, he enlisted in the 10th Pennsylvania Volunteers, serving for more than three years. After the war Ralph devoted much of his life to his primary passions, serving God and his love of music. For more than 20 years, he was able to focus on both passions while teaching music at Mount Union College in Ohio.
However, he was best known as a hymn writer and music publisher, and for his commitment to evangelism. While he left no best-selling biography, we learn a great deal about him through a hymn he wrote in 1882, called, “I’ll Live for Him.”
Here, Hudson revealed the priorities of His life. His focus was not on fame or fortune but on serving God.
Beloved, there are two basic ways that one can live. One can live for one’s self and one can live for Jesus Christ. Living for Jesus simply means total submission to His will. Jesus summarized all the Ten Commandments to three, viz; (i) Love God (ii) Love your neighbour (iii) Love yourself, living for others.
When you do the will of God, you will automatically dislike the will of flesh. The burden of the gospel is at war with our fleshy demands. We cannot desire to live for Christ and still want to satisfy the lust of the flesh. The truth is our material pursue will never allow us to seek the will of God. As long as we’re in the race to make heaven, we must continue to live for Christ.
Prayer: Help me dear Father to live each day according to Your will.
