WALK WITH CAUTION

See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise
Ephesians 5:15
Main Text:

You can never err on the side of caution is a common say. A follow up to this is the need for circumspection and discretion in all interpersonal undertaking. I can’t think of a better picture of what Paul is saying in Ephesians 5:15 when he says, “walk circumspectly.” We should “be very careful . . . how [we] live”. Clearly, with all of life’s possible dangers coming our way as we journey through the wilderness of life, it is vital that we take each step with Jesus wisely and cautiously. A fool, the passage says, lives carelessly; a wise person watches each step so he does not stumble or fall.

Our goal of being “imitators of God” is met only when we live in love and act according to the will of God, Paul says, let us walk carefully in love. Through the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can walk in a way that honors God.

Walking in love requires that we walk worthy. Whether the day is going good or bad, our walk should always be worthy of being called a Christian. Some of the best testimony we can give for God is how we handle difficult times. Those who don’t follow Jesus are watching to see how we will handle difficult situations. When they notice a difference in us, they will start to seek us out for counsel. They will want what we have inside of us.

The people of God should ever be ready to show love, mercy, and humility according to the spirit of God in us. These will make us to be very careful of ourselves. Humility is that character trait where we realize that we are a sinner saved by grace. We understand that there is nothing good in us outside of the atoning work of Christ. We aren’t impressed with ourselves but are very sober then we will not see anything as more important than God in all we do.
