WISHES ARE NOT PRAYERS

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by PRAYER .., let your requests be made known to God…”…
Philippians 4: 6-7
Main Text:

Many times, horrible and unfortunate things have happened to the children of God simply because they have refused to do the right thing –prayerless life or sinful life. Job said  there would be a time in life when the righteous may not be able to pray so he might have to pray ahead of evil days when there is still strength to do so.

Recently, someone told me of a dream he had. He said he had seen two plane crashes near his house. Then I asked him what he did about that. He admitted that he prayed but he wished it will not happen to any of his relatives. As I questioned him a little, sensing problem was already looming around, I realized his father and brother were to travel by air the following day. His father was going to another state in the country and his brother was flying outside the country.

Then, it dawned on him that it might be that God was speaking to him concerning his relatives but he had only wished them a return in safety.

Philippians 4: 6-7 makes it clear that “in everything by PRAYER’, then the PEACE of God follows. How many problems have we run into which we could have averted if we had prayed and NOT wish we avert them?

Jesus said in Luke 18: 1 “pray without ceasing”, not “whish without ceasing”. The Bible teaches prayers from Genesis through to Revelations. In Matt. 7: 7, the “asking, seeking and knocking “referred to there are only realistic factors to “praying”.

Beloved, don’t just stop at wishing for a change, pray for it. God did not promise to grant our wishes but promised to answer our prayers. No wonder the English man says if wishes were horses beggars will ride. See a man that can pray and see a God that can answer.

Prayer:  Lord, teach me to pray when I have to that I may be delivered.
