GIVE ATTENTION TO READING
“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”
1 Tim 4:13
Main Text: Main text: Daniel 9:2
Apostle Paul’s encouragement to give attention to reading (1 Timothy 4:13) highlights the essential role of continuous learning in spiritual growth and success. The popular saying “Readers are leaders” aptly describes the transformative power of books. George R.R. Martin beautifully captures this in his quote, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” Readers immerse themselves in the wisdom, experiences, and insights of others, gaining perspectives that shape their thoughts and actions.
Reading is a gateway to wisdom. It allows you to grow quickly in understanding and excel in your endeavors. In every field, developing a consistent reading habit is a powerful way to stay ahead. There are three crucial categories of books every believer must prioritize:
- The Bible – God's Word is the ultimate source of wisdom and guidance.
- Christian Books – These provide deeper insights into faith and principles for living a victorious Christian life.
- Career-Specific Books – These help you master your field and excel professionally.
Additionally, podcasts, audio tapes, and other resources can supplement your learning. Proverbs 22:29 reminds us that diligence leads to excellence: “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” Diligence is not accidental; it requires effort, discipline, and intentionality. By committing to reading, learning, and applying what you gain, you equip yourself for greatness. Pay the price for wisdom today and position yourself for a life of impact and influence.
Confession
I declare, wisdom is the principal thing, and I make it my priority! In all my getting, I choose understanding. I give my attention to reading, listening, and learning, aligning myself with the wisdom of God. I choose to be wise and acquire wisdom at all cost, for it leads to life and prosperity. Amen!
